How to Play Music Through Skype

Filthy Grin and my collaborator Holy Zoo (househole names), have collaborated over many years using Skype. I wouldn’t call our relationship with Skype a love affair, but a peaceful arrangement with occasional hiccups. Since our collaborations are somewhat loose, the latency for collaborating online isn’t a huge focus. Nonetheless, we can get a decent feel for any delay.

Music we’ve recorded with Skype

Our approaches have both touched on wacky wiring, and audio interfaces with dynamic routing. Far be it from us, to live in the same town.

Approach #1

Approach #2

Arizona Dry Heat Delayed By Seismic Set

Local Tempe sonic hero, Glochids provides the proper alignment of bells, a huge drum, and a goblet of water to delay the onset of Arizona’s “but it’s a dry heat,” summer. Please adjust your stereo and listen. If enough of us tune in, we may just end up with a beach front property.

No Good Excuses

Obviously the damage to my arm has slowed down things drastically. Originally I was planning on releasing a lot of the live recordings accompanied with writing. Both from the tour and Tempe house shows.

Luckily I can do a decent amount of mastering with one arm. I’m going to attempt to eq many of these recordings, post the best of these and contact the bands so they can get the raw audio. Hopefully these recordings do someone good.

Upcoming bands: Soft Shoulder, Pigeon Religion, Stephen Steinbrink, Hell-Kite, Glochids, Nu Sensae, Christina The Hun… I can’t remember much more after that.

Feeding The Smile

Or sweet rewards for living

Or sweet rewards for living

Multi-part collaboration between Drek Campbell and A.K. 47. Soon to be printed in a book and subsequently burned for understated crimes against the sanctimony of marriage.
